Lakshadweep requires an entry permit for most visitors who are not residents of the islands. Indian travellers visiting for leisure should apply through the Lakshadweep Administration’s official ePermit portal. This guide explains the current Tourist application, the published fees, and the checks to make before travelling.
Who needs a permit?
The entry rules require a permit to enter and stay in Lakshadweep unless a specific exemption applies. This page is written for Indian leisure travellers. If you believe you fall under an exemption, check it with the Administration before making travel arrangements.
Before you apply
Decide the basic shape of your trip first. The permit follows the people, dates, and islands in the approved application.
- An email address and mobile number you can access while travelling
- The details for everyone in your group
- Your arrival and departure dates
- Each island you plan to visit, including transit islands
- The information requested by the live Tourist application
- A supported online payment method
Use the fields shown in the live Tourist form as your checklist. The public portal does not maintain a permanent, exhaustive list of uploads. It currently says that a local sponsor is not required and a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) does not need to be uploaded for Tourist applications.
How the online application works
Complete the application carefully while your travel details are still flexible. The following is the current flow on the official portal.
- 1.
Create an account
Register on the official ePermit portal with your current contact details.
- 2.
Select Tourist
Choose Tourist for a holiday. Work, official, and other visits use different categories.
- 3.
Add each traveller
Enter every applicant exactly as shown on their identity document. One form can currently include up to six applicants.
- 4.
Enter the itinerary
Add your travel dates, destinations, and transit islands. The issued permit only covers the islands listed on it.
- 5.
Follow the current document prompts
Upload only what the live Tourist application asks for. Requirements can change, so older checklists are not a substitute.
- 6.
Pay, submit, and save the reference
Review the form, complete payment, save the application reference, and use the portal to follow its status.
Fees and payment
The published fee page lists the following amounts for the current application process. Confirm them again at payment because fees can change.
| Fee | Applies to | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Application fee | Each applicant | ₹50 |
| Heritage fee | Age 12 to 18 | ₹100 |
| Heritage fee | Over age 18 | ₹200 |
The current fee page does not list a heritage-fee amount for children under 12. Check the live calculation. The portal’s terms say successfully submitted application and heritage fees are not refundable.
Check the permit against your itinerary
A permit is valid only for the island or islands endorsed on it. Before you travel, compare the issued permit with the booking and transport plans you intend to use.
- NamesCheck every traveller’s spelling against the identity document used in the application.
- DatesMake sure the arrival and departure dates agree with your flight or ship plans.
- IslandsInclude every destination and transit island. Do not assume approval for one island covers another.
After you submit
You can follow the application through the portal, and the issued permit is sent by email. When it arrives:
- Keep the application reference available.
- Check the names, dates, and endorsed islands.
- Carry an accessible digital or printed copy of the permit.
- If your plans change, use the Administration’s current process before travelling to a different island.
Changes, rejections, and official help
Permit decisions and amendments sit with the Lakshadweep Administration. If an application is returned or rejected, use the application reference and the official support route for the next step. Assistance providers can help with preparation or submission, but they cannot guarantee approval or timing.
The public official pages do not publish a general approval-time guarantee. Apply well before travel and, where practical, wait for the permit before committing to non-refundable arrangements.

For foreign nationals
This guide is for Indian leisure travellers. Foreign nationals need a valid passport and Indian visa, and their permitted islands and clearance route can differ. Check the current requirements with the Lakshadweep Administration before making travel arrangements.
